We live in Wears Valley, next to the Great Smoky Mountains and close to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg & Sevierville, which are some of the best tourist destinations in the USA. This area has been our home for the past 7 years and every day still feels like we are on vacation. Everything we do, whether it concerns our marriage, raising our daughter or even running our business, is based around our belief in God, Jesus Christ and the ability to use the Bible as our instruction manual. These 3 things help us live life to the fullest and we are able to give glory to God for all of it.
Why we Started Bear Tootin
The business was created due to a blessing from God. In 2011, I was working at my dream job planning activities and helping guests create their dream vacations at a resort in Gatlinburg. I had been there for 3 years and had been looking forward to having the opportunity of becoming the Activities Director and staying at that job for the rest of my working years… BUT God had another plan, with a surprise pregnancy! My husband and I had been trying for 9 years and had come to the conclusion that children were not going to be a part of our lives while we were still on earth. Then SURPRISE and all in God’s timing. To obey God’s word and putting all our trust in Him, I left my job after the birth of our daughter, Eden.
Being able to stay home with our daughter is a true blessing and always being the working type, a few months later I started taking some pictures for realtors, which was great because I could put Eden in a papoose & snap away. After a while the realtors would tell me that when they would sell a vacation rental property, the new owner would ask for suggestion on what rental company to sign up with. Since I had some free time on my hands & wanting to help them out, I went around to different cabin rental companies & collected their contracts…going through them I found high management percentages, monthly fees, and I couldn’t figure out how any owner could even make a profit…let alone pay their bills. After doing some research & meeting with some cabin owners to understand what their needs were I knew that there could be a better solution, so I put together a business plan. Being I life long tourist, it was easy for me to know what the cabin guest would want…great customer service, help planning activities & most of all a REALLY CLEAN cabin.
Applying all this new knowledge & the experience I gained from the resort, we decided to create “Bear Tootin… your getaway \ go between”.
How we got our Name & Logo
In trying to establish our business name and logo, I knew very quickly that we wanted a mascot and the obvious choice was a cute little bear. So after it was designed, next came the name. Preferably something at the front of the alphabet to maximize web traffic. However “bear this” and “bear that” were already taken and we wanted our name to stand out and hopefully something that people could remember. Call it mental exhaustion or divine intervention but somewhere between those two while doodling one day, little swirl puffs ended up at the back end of the bear and then came the giggles; the gassy bear was born and thus “Bear Tootin”.
